Hydrotein is highly valued for its extract and seeds, which contains proteins similar to hydrolyzed rice protein – found on Earth. Story

JIUDI WORLD is home to natural landscapes some would consider nightmarish, the online world blending into the physical to create new and unsettling landscapes, more machine than nature. It is in these places, where technology and nature combine that Hydrotein can be found, the first plant truly more digital than physical. The supercomputers used by technocrats within the city are colossal, their processing power incomprehensible to the human mind. Some are as wide as city blocks, and tall as skyscrapers, whirring monuments to technologies dominance over humanity. And these supercomputers require coolant to run. Lots and lots of coolant. This coolant is stored beneath the ground, in reservoirs of mindboggling scale. Great lakes of cold liquid, constantly moving, to be pumped through steel pipes and assist calculations and programmes of gargantuan size.

Now very few have access to these coolant lakes, they are so essential to the infrastructure of the city. But those who do quickly began to notice something growing in the shallows of these lakes. Somehow, impossibly, a plant had evolved which did not need sunlight, but instead fed off the coolant liquid itself, blossoming in the the dark and the cold. Pale as fresh snow, and cold to the touch, Hydrotein is synthetic yet natural, for a world that is both human and mechanical. Of course, as you can imagine the plant itself is deadly poisonous, a fact which those early workers became painfully aware of. But what they did discover was that the seeds of the plant, small grains, could be ground up and mixed with water to create ‘living silver’. When this concoction comes into contact with organic matter, its synthetic nature forces a reaction, seeking to instill the same mechanical perfection within it as the great citywide programmes demand. And so it smooths flaws, hydrates skin, provides shine and luster to hair. This liquid is the most popular cosmetic product within the city, as it presents perfection through the medley of the organic and the unnatural.

Collaboration

We recently teamed up with 3D artist Roxi Basa to bring the plants of JIUDI WORLD to life. Inspired by the key ingredients in our hair colour formula, we collaborated on whismical 3D animations and renders that showcase each fantasy plant. The goal was to help our community better understand the benefits of these ingredients while revealing more fragments of the lore of JIUDI WORLD. Working with Roxi was an absolute pleasure — her boundless imagination and talent really helped us visualize more of the JIUDI fantasy.
